MINUTES OF ORDINARY MEETING OF NEWBY AND SCALBY TOWN COUNCIL
held in the Community Hub, Council Office, 445b Scalby Road, Scalby,
on Wednesday, 13th March 2024 at 7pm.
Prior to the commencement of the meeting a member of public read out a letter/statement to those present.
PRESENT: Councillors R Thompson (Chairman), R Holliday, B Kendall, B Marley, J Shepherd, J Smith.
ALSO IN ATTENDANCE: NYC Cllr. Sharma, 2 police, approximately 40 members of public, Mrs J Marley (Clerk to Council).
ABSENT: Cllrs. S Barnes, D Bastiman, S Foote, D Pickersgill.
Prior to the meeting being brought to order North Yorkshire Councillor Sharma asked what the capacity of the room was for fire purposes. When told by the Chairman that it was believed to be 50, Cllr. Sharma stated there were 55 people on the room. As it was not possible to easily count the number of persons present, none of the public present was prepared to leave the room and councillors did not wish to move the meeting outside into the courtyard, after heated exchanges and much discussion with the Police and among councillors, the Chairman declared the meeting adjourned at 1910. Everyone left the room and the external doors were locked at 7.30pm.
At 7.35 the Chairman re-convened the meeting for councillors to consider the confidential items on the agenda. No resolution to exclude the public took place as there were no members of public present (they all having left the building and the doors being locked). The Chairman reminded those present that the following items of business were being taken as Confidential Items.
59/24 CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS
59/24.1 The meeting received and noted verbal updates on staffing matters and resolved the relevant letters be sent to staff by Council’s personnel advisers.
There being no further business to be transacted, the Chairman declared the meeting closed at 8.14pm.
