Originally two separate villages, the civil parish of Newby and Scalby is a residential suburb to the north of Scarborough and has a population of approximately 9,500, making it the seventh highest by population of the 738 parishes in North Yorkshire. By 2030, with planned new developments, the population is likely to increase to over 12,000. Over 31% of the parish is aged over 65.
