Yesterday (Friday 24th April 2026) North Yorkshire’s Strategic Planning Committee voted that they were minded to refuse Europa’s application for the wellsite and drilling rig on land at the rear of the Mill Yard, Coastal Road, Burniston.
The vote was 11 for refusal, with 1 abstention.
The Committee was “minded to” refuse, but could not immediately refuse, because North Yorkshire Council had received notice from the Secretary of State to say that a third party has asked him to reconsider his decision not to require an environmental statement with the application, which the Secretary of State is going to do. Ultimately, the Secretary of State decided NOT to reconsider, so the refusal stands.
